Process Engineer – Smithfield, Sydney
At Visy, we love solving problems. And that’s something we do better together. We’re looking for a Process Engineer to join our Visy rPlastics team in Smithfield, Sydney, and help drive process optimisation, continuous improvement, systems development, and engineering support across the plant.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer will play a key role in supporting operations to optimise plant performance, embed best practice, and deliver engineering solutions. This is a hands-on role working closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify bottlenecks, improve energy efficiency, enhance plant reliability, and contribute to capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture through active engagement in programs and initiatives.
- Support operations in problem-solving, root cause analysis (RCA), and implementing corrective actions.
- Design, implement and challenge best practice processes and systems, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Perform risk assessments in compliance with company and industry standards.
- Facilitate and perform maintenance analysis (RCA, FMEA) to drive reliability improvements.
- Lead continuous improvement and plant optimisation projects.
- Assist in the preparation of business cases and justifications for capital initiatives.
- Manage plant control of change systems.
What You Will Bring
- Degree in Chemical, Process Engineering (or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles with the ability to apply them in a practical, operational setting.
- Proven problem-solving ability and analytical mindset, including use of statistical process control techniques.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to drive initiatives and manage small to medium-sized projects to completion.
- Experience in operations, maintenance, or process improvement (desirable).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
