The opportunity:
As the Forehearth Supervisor at Visy Glass, Penrose, you will be responsible for conditioning molten glass through the forehearth, shaping and cutting glass gobs to the correct weight and form, and ensuring the glass is ready to be blown into high‑quality finished containers that meet production and quality standards.
What You Will Do:
- Lead and optimise forehearth and feeder operations, ensuring stable, high‑quality glass container production
- Control key process parameters (temperatures, set points, gob shape) to meet quality and productivity targets
- Drive continuous improvement, reducing defects, downtime, and job‑change settlement time
- Troubleshoot and resolve forehearth‑related defects and performance issues
- Promote a strong safety and compliance culture in line with Visy and GMF standards
- Support capability development, mentoring operators and collaborating with production teams
What you will bring to the team:
- Extensive experience in the glass manufacturing industry (typically 8–10+ years), with strong hands‑on expertise in glass forming and blowing processes, from the forehearth and feeder area through to Press & Blow, Blow & Blow, and Narrow Neck Press & Blow (NNPB) operations
- Proven ability to condition glass across all colours and accurately control molten glass gobs to ensure readiness for forming high‑quality containers
- Demonstrated capability to operate and optimise both Owens‑Illinois and Emhart forehearth systems, including effective monitoring and control of all critical machine parameters to meet quality standards
- Deliver on‑the‑job training in glass technology, with a strong focus on glass conditioning, defect identification, and corrective action aproaches
- Experience in training, mentoring, and developing operators and technicians, supporting skill uplift and consistent production performance
