Role Details

This is a high-impact leadership role at the heart of Visy Logistics' growth ambitions in the United States. As Head of Ocean Freight Product, you will be responsible for developing and executing ocean freight product strategies, managing carrier and supplier relationships, and supporting the commercial team to win and grow ocean freight business across North America.

You will work within a global matrix structure, reporting to the Global Head of Ocean Freight Product while operating day-to-day alongside the USA country leadership team and interacting closely with operations, customer service, and sales stakeholders. This is not an oversight role — it requires genuine hands-on engagement, deep market expertise, and the ability to balance global alignment with local execution.

What You'll Do

Product Strategy & Development

• Develop and enhance ocean freight product strategies and policies for the USA market.
• Align USA ocean products with global standards and frameworks established by the Global Head.
• Drive ocean freight capacity planning and management to support business growth targets.
• Identify product gaps, market trends, and opportunities to strengthen Visy's ocean freight offering.

Supplier & Carrier Relationship Management

• Lead ocean freight services procurement, contracting, and rate negotiations with ocean carriers.
• Build and manage strategic carrier and supplier relationships to secure preferential capacity and pricing.
• Ensure USA carrier arrangements are consistent with and complementary to global carrier agreements.
• Travel to meet key suppliers, carriers, and customers across the United States as required.

Sales Enablement & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as an ocean freight subject matter expert, partnering with sales teams to support new business development.
• Develop ocean products and solutions that are ready for the market and competitive in the USA.
• Collaborate with operations, customer service, and country management on a daily basis.
• Lead and develop the ocean freight product team, creating a high-performance, sleeves-rolled-up culture.

Success in This Role Looks Like

• Ocean freight products have been developed and distributed to USA stakeholders for active selling in the market.
• Carrier relationships and ocean product contracts are in place to support the USA sales growth targets.
• USA ocean product carrier arrangements are consistent with and supportive of global carrier agreements.
• The team operates effectively in a matrix structure, with clear alignment between global policy and local execution.
• Internal stakeholders — including sales, operations, and customer service — view you as the go-to ocean product expert.

What You Will Bring to the Team

• Minimum 15 years' experience in ocean freight, freight forwarding, or a related logistics discipline.
• Background in one or more of the following: freight forwarding (small to medium forwarder preferred), ocean carrier (including commercial roles), or logistics procurement (import/export focus).
• Proven experience in ocean freight product development, capacity management, and carrier procurement.
• Strong negotiation skills and an established network of carrier and supplier relationships in the US market.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and commercialise ocean freight products that drive measurable business growth.
• Experience supporting sales teams as a product SME, contributing to business development and customer-facing activities.
• Ability to operate effectively in a global matrix structure, balancing global alignment with local market delivery.
• A hands-on, collaborative leadership style with a proven ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Economics, Supply Chain Management, or Logistics. FIATA certification is advantageous but not required.
