About the role

The Mechanical Reliability Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment in a paper manufacturing plant. The role involves ensuring the smooth operation of machinery by conducting regular inspections, performing preventative maintenance, and addressing any mechanical issues that may arise to minimize downtime. The Engineer works closely with production teams to ensure equipment is operating efficiently and safely.

 

What you'll do

Reporting to the Reliability Manager, key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance on paper mill machinery and equipment such as pumps, conveyors, rollers, and compressors to ensure optimal operation and prevent breakdowns.
  • Repairs and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in manufacturing equipment. Troubleshoot problems quickly to minimize production downtime.
  • Equipment Installation: Assist in the installation of new machinery and ensure it is properly calibrated and functioning according to specifications.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory. Document machine performance, issues, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all work complies with safety standards and regulations. Conduct risk assessments and participate in safety training programs to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production operators and other maintenance personnel to optimize machinery performance and improve overall plant efficiency.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement improvements in machine performance, maintenance techniques, and cost-saving measures.

 

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including industrial equipment components.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Reliability Engineer in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the paper industry).
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical issues efficiently under pressure.
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings, blueprints, and machine schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, and commitment to working in compliance with safety standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, including production, quality control, and electrical maintenance teams.
  • Comfortable working in industrial environments with noise, dust, and exposure to moving machinery.
