The Opportunity
Visy has prided itself on being an energy leader amongst its industrial peers with mature approaches to both supply and demand side management. The Energy Trader holds a strategic position within Visy’s broader Global Procurement Operations, supporting optimisation and development of Visy’s end to end energy portfolio from a short term and longer-term perspective. Activity includes trading, revenue generation, demand side management and strategy development across a large portfolio.
The Energy Trader is responsible for supporting the cost effectiveness and execution of the Energy business model, striving to deliver optimised physical and financial energy outcomes to Visy’s group of companies across both a short and longer-term horizon. The Energy Trader role is responsible for managing Visy’s daily physical flow of natural gas and electricity, delivering essential energy required for manufacturing operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Group General Manager – Energy, Waste and Water you will be involved in engaging with business stakeholders.
Drive long-term energy strategies and offer strategic advice to senior management. Focus on reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainability. Enjoy a collaborative culture that values innovation, diversity, and personal growth. Support and implement book building and commercial activity associated with Visy’s power, gas, and renewable certificate portfolios in Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, support or lead sourcing and negotiation activities, providing hedging recommendations.
Working strategically towards long-term goals, your key responsibilities will be but not limited to:
- Develop and implement the long-term strategy in Energy Management with a deep understanding of the key commodities and market drivers and provide Visy with a sustainable competitive advantage
- Provide strategic advice and thought leadership to Senior Management on all energy trading matters
- Support projects in energy efficiency, demand and behind the meter generation optimisation with the broader business. Support and Lead project teams to execute outcomes
- Monitors the wholesale power market and develop a deep understanding of market dynamics and manage Visy's demand response and formulate forward trading strategies
- Monitor the environmental product market to support Visy’s environmental requirements and value generation.
- Managing Visy’s short term market participation activities, including daily nominations, storage, and transport positions.
To be considered you must have:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably with a science, numerical focus, e.g. Engineering, Commerce, Finance or Mathematics
- At least 5 years working experience in an Energy or Trading environment
- Demonstrated strong experience in analytics and finance
- Previous DWGM/STTM trading experience including transport and storage nominations/bidding/balancing
- Previous trading and risk management experience
- Experience with Hedging Energy Products or Financial or Commodity Risk Management tools and Strategies.
Desirable experience across:
- Experience dealing with global companies
- Programming Experience for data collection, automation, and reporting
- Experience in PowerBi Development
- Secondary Training and Certification with recognised associations/bodies.
- Experience within energy portfolio optimisation
- Energy Industry Experience
