About the role:

As a Leading Hand in our Paper Production division at Visy Pulp & Paper, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our paper manufacturing processes. Reporting to the Production Foreman, you will lead a team of machine operators, overseeing all aspects of production to meet budget targets, maintain quality standards, and uphold safety and environmental compliance. This dynamic role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to excellence in every aspect of paper production.

Duties:

  1. Lead efforts to achieve and improve production targets on a daily basis, providing technical support, troubleshooting complex production problems, and overseeing machinery set-ups to optimise efficiency.
  2. Maintain a high standard of quality by regularly checking process conditions against check sheets, monitoring final product parameters, and taking corrective action as needed to ensure adherence to customer specifications.
  3. Uphold all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring that personnel adhere to PPE requirements, conducting regular safety inspections, and participating in incident investigations to maintain a safe working environment.
  4. Lead, motivate, and develop the production team, assessing competency, delegating responsibilities, and providing ongoing training and support to ensure that employees perform to the required standard.
  5. Adhere to all environmental procedures and policies, implement actions to minimise environmental impact, and actively participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental stewardship within the organisation.
  6. Share information and new ideas with shift operators, attend meetings to discuss repair work and improvements, and collaborate with the machine supervisor and other team members to drive continuous improvement and ensure the efficient operation of the paper production process.
  7. Maintain accurate records of production activities, quality checks, and safety inspections, reporting any non-conforming products or safety incidents and implementing procedural changes resulting from corrective actions.
  8. Regularly manage and review the performance of shift operators, utilizing the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) system to identify and address performance or procedural issues, and liaising with the machine supervisor as needed to initiate disciplinary action or coordinate training programs.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

  • Qualification in Production Management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience within a paper manufacturing environment - essential!
  • Your proven ability to inspire and guide teams towards surpassing targets will drive our success.
  • With deep expertise in paper manufacturing, you'll streamline processes and optimise machinery for efficiency.
  • Your meticulous attention to detail ensures our products consistently meet and exceed customer expectations.
