About Visy
Visy is powering the circular economy, closing the loop between packaging, remanufacturing and recycling, employing over 7,000 people across 150 locations.
We believe materials are not recycled until they’ve been made into new products. We collect and sort recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, and metals from households and businesses, and locally remanufacture them back into new, sustainable packaging. We are using recycled content to power Australia and New Zealand’s food and beverage packaging industry.
The Role
As Manager of Government Affairs, you’ll play a central role in shaping Visy’s policy engagement across recycling, manufacturing, energy and sustainability. Reporting to the General Manager of Government Relations, Communications and Public Affairs, you’ll work with a small but dynamic team managing government relations. On a day to day basic you’ll contribute to policy development, engage decision-makers and support the Visy executive leadership team.
This is a strategic and hands-on role suited to someone with a deep understanding of government processes—ideally including at the federal level—and experience working across politics, policy or public affairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess policy and legislative developments affecting Visy’s operations
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies aligned with Visy’s policy priorities
- Maintain strong relationships across government, Parliaments, and relevant departments
- Prepare briefing materials, correspondence and submissions for internal and external stakeholders
- Represent Visy in meetings, forums and consultations
- Collaborate across business units to ensure clear and consistent policy positions
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in government, politics, policy or corporate/public affairs
- Strong knowledge of Australian government and parliamentary processes
- Proven ability to analyse complex policy issues and develop clear positions
- Excellent writing and communication skills, including preparation of briefs and submissions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, communications, or related fields
