  • Support and lead critical batch and furnace operations in a continuous manufacturing environment
  • Drive safety, quality, and performance improvements across plant operations
  • Work with cutting-edge assets in a high-performing, sustainability-focused team

Our new glass factory in Yatala is our largest investment to date. It will recycle up to 200,000 tonnes of Queensland glass each year to produce 1 billion bottles. With advanced machinery and control systems, we ensure efficient, high-quality production.

Reporting to the Batch & Furnace Manager, the Assistant Batch & Furnace Manager will play a key role in supporting the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the Batch House and Furnace. You’ll be responsible for ensuring raw materials, melting processes, and plant performance are optimised to consistently deliver high-quality glass to downstream production.

Working in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, you will act as a technical and operational leader - supporting the frontline team, troubleshooting issues, and driving improvements across safety, quality, cost, and performance. This role combines hands-on operational involvement with leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the process while influencing outcomes and team capability.

What you'll do:

  • Support and coordinate Batch and Furnace operations to ensure safe, stable, 24/7 production
  • Ensure glass composition is tailored and optimised to meet Forming requirements
  • Ensure glass quality meets customer specification and internal standards
  • Manage colour changes to ensure there is no adverse downtime
  • Ensure energy usage is optimised and plans are in place to continuously improve energy management
  • Drive safety and environmental compliance, including audits and corrective actions
  • Provide technical support and act as an escalation point for operators
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver continuous improvement across cost, performance, and processes
  • Participate in a call-out roster when required for added support

What You Will Bring:

  • Experience in heavy industry or continuous manufacturing (e.g., glass, steel, aluminium, mining, or similar)
  • Knowledge or exposure to batch processing, furnace operations, or similar thermal processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to optimise plant performance
  • People leadership or supervisory experience in an industrial environment
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence
  • Engineering qualification (preferred) or equivalent practical experience

  • Innovation: Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art glass manufacturing facility with leading edge technology
  • Sustainability: Contribute to sustainability initiatives that make a difference
  • Supportive Environment: Be part of a highly curated team with a strong focus on excellence, safety, culture and collaboration
  • Career Growth: Clear career progression pathways within a growing, future-focused business
  • Leave Benefits: Purchase leave options for extra flexibility

About Visy

Visy is powering the circular economy, closing the loop between packaging, remanufacturing and recycling. Over 75 years, we've grown to 7,000 employees and 150 global operations  - predominately in Australia and New Zealand.

We believe materials are not recycled until they’ve been made into new products. We collect and sort recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, glass, plastics and metals from households and businesses, and locally remanufacture them back into new, sustainable packaging. From cardboard boxes, water bottles and jam jars to food and beverage cans, we are using recycled content to power Australia and New Zealand’s food and beverage packaging industry.
